The Prime Minister presented the Independence Award 2022.

Staff Reporter: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the Independence Award 2022 to 9 individuals and 2 organizations in recognition of their glorious and meritorious contribution at the national level.

The Prime Minister handed over the Independence Award 2022 at her office on Thursday (March 24) morning.

In a statement issued on March 15, the cabinet announced the names of 10 individuals and one organization for the 2022 Independence Award. 

Later, controversial information about the late Mohammad Amir Hamza, who was nominated for his contribution in the field of literature, came out and his name was actually removed from the list. 

The name of the power department was nominated for the Independence Award for successfully completing 100 per cent electrification work in the year of Mujib.

According to the revised list, in the case of 'Independence and Liberation War', six people received the Independence Award this time. 

Among them are heroic freedom fighter Ilyas Ahmed Chowdhury martyred Colonel Khandaker Nazmul Huda (Bir Bikram) Abdul Jalil Siraj Uddin Ahmed late Mohammad Sahiuddin Biswas and late Sirajul Haque.

Prof. Dr. Konak Kanti Barua and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Islam received the award in the category of 'Medicine'. 

The late architect Syed Moinul Islam has received the Independence Award in 'Architecture'.

Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute won the award in the field of 'Research and Training'.

Besides, the government gave 'Swadhinata Puraskar 2022' to the power department for successfully completing 100% electrification work.

The 'Independence Award' is the highest state award in the country. 

The government has been giving this award every year since 1977 on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26.

In the case of Swadhinata Puraskar, the recipient of the award will be given a replica of 50 gram gold medal of 18 carat value of 5 lakh taka and a certificate.
